    Planting Gardens to Wow Buyers

Getting buyers in the door is a matter of how great your curb appeal is. You don’t want buyers driving past your home and continuing on down the road because the outside doesn’t catch their eye. Even if the home itself isn’t the nicest, you can wow buyers with some great landscaping. Get them into your home, where the real charm is, and you’ll have offers in no time!

    Well-thought-out design

Don’t just plant flowers willy-nilly – you want a really well-thought-out design with interesting and cohesive plants – this means by height, width, color and type of plant. Check out Better Homes and Gardens’ Plan Finder for some ideas on how to plan your garden. You’ll need to know what grows well with what, what spreads and takes over and how tall certain plants will get. You don’t want a crowded garden, but you also don’t want one that is too sparse.

    Using pots

If you are selling, you might not want to spend a bunch of money on gardens that will stay with the house. Having plants in pots means they can go with you. Plus, container gardens can be quite beautiful, adding more interest with different types of containers. Herbs grow quite well in pots and do double duty, because you can eat them!

    Go with nature

If you live in an already wooded area, you’ll want your landscaping to be cohesive with this. You want your landscaping to look natural, as if it has grown there on its own. Tropical plants might look out of place in a less-than-tropical setting.

    Create height or get curvy

For landscaping you can see from the road, tall plants are your best bet. Small, delicate flowers, unless planted in large groups, won’t have the impact that tall and wide plants will. Vines are great options as they grow fast and will look great against a fence – try Ivy, Clematis or Hops. To create interest, add some curves to your garden. Your beds don’t have to be straight lines and in fact that can be quite boring. Something tapered or curved adds a great perspective and circles are very pleasing to the eye.
